".... one hundred years of singing" |
Future Plans |
We were delighted with our October concert, the first one under the baton of our new conductor Gillian Dulieu.
The first part was devoted to a selection of choral pieces which were well-known, easy on the ear and obviously much appreciated by the audience.
The choir sang Parry’s glorious I was glad, which everyone remembers from the Royal Wedding, Elgar’s Ave Verum, Stanford’s Magnificat in G, Tallis’ If ye love me and Wesley’s Blessed be the God and Father, and a delightful Cradle Song composed by Gillian herself.
The soprano soloist was Linda Hart, who sang Blest be those Sweet Regions by Jeremiah Clarke, better known for his Trumpet Voluntary.
The second part of the concert was devoted to John Rutter’s Requiem, in the less common version for organ, cello, flute, oboe, harp and percussion.
The small group of instruments made a huge impression. How wonderful to be able to hear the beautiful tones of the harp, usually lost in the rich sound of the orchestra.
The choir was at its best, so overall this was a very successful concert and a credit to Gillian's hard work.
We learned a clutch of Advent Carols which were performed in St Pauls Church, Clacton on December 3rd with seasonal readings. It turned out to be a very friendly occasion, ending with mulled wine and mince pies.
We also made a singing visit to a local Care Home "Dunedin" later in the month.
Our next major concert is on April 21st 2012, with Haydn’ Harmoniemesse as the main item and a variety of shorter Mozart pieces in Part 1 of the concert.
