We have been in existence now for over a
hundred years, having been founded by Frederick Lewellen at Christ Church in
1897, although he is said to have conducted Messiah as early as 1888! The
choir has been a constant part of the tradition of choral singing in Clacton
ever since, only breaking off during the Wars.
If you would like to be
part of this tradition, can sing in tune and could give up Monday nights to
rehearse, you will be made to feel very welcome. We give two concerts a
year, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn with occasional additional
performances at Christmas. Don’t worry if you can’t read music, we’ll teach
you the notes and provide the scores.
We have a flexible membership scheme to suit all sorts of availability,
although you will have to reach the required standard to sing in a concert.
So why not join us? Come to a couple of rehearsals to see how you get on.
We can then get you to fill in the application form, offer you the
appropriate membership and you too can become part of a century of music
making.
